On the way home from work one day, Lane Parks, service technician in Batesville, Ark., and former firefighter, observed heavy smoke coming out of what he believed to be a vacant house. After dialing 911, Parks saw a woman trying to escape the fire through a window. Parks ran to the aid of the badly burnt woman and pulled her from the blazing house. Parks also administered first aid until ambulance personnel arrived.
James Langston, Newark Fire Department chief who is also a CNP service technician in Batesville, presented an appreciation award to Parks saying, “Mr. Parks is the kind of neighbor and citizen everyone wants to have in their community. On behalf of the citizens of this area, I would like to say ‘thank you’ for the bravery and heroism you displayed.”
