BackpacksCenterPoint Energy employees, along with their family and friends, took part in several school supply drives that provided pencils, paper, scissors and more to needy students throughout the Greater Houston area.

At the Community Family Centers in Houston’s East End, volunteers handed out a year’s worth of supplies to more than 400 low-income students, ranging from pre-kindergarten to fourth grade.

Mary Lynn Kallina, Corporate Community Relations program manager, left, was among the employees who helped members of the Houston Fire Department distribute 100 backpacks filled with school supplies to low-income elementary school children. Volunteers handed-out more backpacks to refugee children from the Alliance for Multi-cultural Community Services and underprivileged students from the Chinese American Relief Efforts at Forester Elementary. Employees also took part in the University of Houston’s Operation School Supplies, during which hundreds of students, alumni, staff and community leaders boxed and shipped thousands of pounds of supplies to needy students at schools throughout the Houston Independent School District.
