Houston
Mercado rallies March for Babies captains
Teams challenged to raise 10 percent more than last year

March for BabiesHouston employees interested in leading fundraising teams for the 2010 March for Babies recently attended the team captain kickoff meeting, hosted by the new CNP executive walk chair, Kenny Mercado, division vice president of AMS Deployment. About half of the attendees were new recruits. “You’re all taking part in an important campaign that truly makes a difference in the lives of premature babies who wouldn’t otherwise have a chance at surviving and thriving,” Mercado said.

Mercado said despite the challenging economic times, people are willing to give money and participate in the event. “There’s no doubt we have to be more aggressive with our fundraising efforts this year and share ideas about what’s working and what’s not,” he said. “I’m doing this right alongside of you, and together, I know we can raise
10 percent more money this year, recruit 10 percent more participants than last year and convince more people to come out and enjoy the actual walk day.”

A March of Dimes representative noted the online fundraising tool makes money collection much easier. On average, team captains raise $400 online - double the amount typically raised using paper sponsor forms.
