CNP, Komen affiliate celebrate community partnerships

Komen CenterPoint Energy recently joined the Susan G. Komen for the Cure Houston affiliate in presenting the organization’s 2010 Awards Luncheon. Sharon Owens, vice president of Corporate Community Relations, addressed more than 400 guests at the Hats Off to You! Positively Pink for 20 Years and Counting event, which celebrated outstanding volunteers, donors and grant recipients.

During the event, the Komen affiliate unveiled its contribution of $3.61 million to the 2010-2011 grant recipients, organizations that will carry out breast cancer education, screening and treatments. Pictured are breast cancer survivors Olga Boney, executive secretary, and Maureen Bennett, building service supervisor, strutting down the catwalk with other survivor models as audience members heard fashion tips. Proceeds from the luncheon totaled more than $30,000, which will support breast cancer education, screening and treatment.

In keeping with most Komen events, the ballroom was decorated in shades of pink with guests enjoying pink lemonade, dining on a pink dessert and walking away with a commemorative pink tumbler. More than 40 volunteers from CNP helped plan and execute the event. CenterPoint Energy’s involvement in the event follows the 2009 formation of the CNP Komen Committee, which is made up of employees whose lives have been affected by breast cancer in some way.
