Handicapable Rodeo
From roping wild straw cattle to braving the bucking barrel and horseback riding, all participants in the Pittsburg, Texas, Handicapable Rodeo were winners. With the assistance of CenterPoint Energy employee volunteers, the rodeo gives handicapped participants the opportunity to enjoy an activity usually not available to them.
United Way
Through employee pledges, the 2011-12 CenterPoint Energy United Way campaign generated nearly $2.7 million in corporate and employee contributions, and nearly $135,000 was from the Texas surrounding area. The United Way campaign assists 86 local United Way offices throughout the CenterPoint Energy footprint in which 27 United Way offices throughout the company’s greater Texas service area include the United Way of Beaumont and North Jefferson County, Tyler/Smith County, Longview, Laredo and Greater Texarkana.
CenterPoint Energy has a large base of employees and retirees who are strongly committed to personal volunteerism. To commend these company volunteers for the ways in which they improve the community, the company awards GIVE (Grant Incentives for Volunteer Employees) grants to the nonprofit organizations that employees and retirees are heavily involved. Last year, CenterPoint Energy contributed $80,200 in GIVE grants to nonprofits where employee volunteers have donated at least 40 hours of service year-to-date.
