In December 2008, CenterPoint Energy, Inc.’s electric transmission and distribution subsidiary, CenterPoint Energy Houston Electric, received approval from the Public Utility Commission of Texas (PUC) to install an advanced metering system (AMS) across its service territory over a five-year period from March 2009 until 2014 (A Smart Grid Investment grant from the U.S. Dept. of Energy accelerated completion of the project to mid 2012).
