Charging the battery
Electric chart

Charging is as simple as plugging into a standard 120-volt outlet. If you drive less or your car has a smaller battery, you can charge within a few hours. For larger batteries or faster charging, you can install a 240-volt home charging station or dock.

Whenever possible, charge your vehicle before noon or after 8 p.m. to take advantage of potentially lower power prices and a less overall demand for electricity.

Advanced metering provides more options for saving

Some retail electric providers offer products that take advantage of the capability of smart meters, which are installed throughout Greater Houston. These products include time-of-use rates with free nighttime electricity or plans that allow you to prepay for electricity. Check with your provider or visit PowerToChoose.org to learn more about these services.
