CenterPoint Energy installs energy efficient upgrades for 100 Houston Housing Authority residents

HOUSTON – December 6, 2011 – This holiday season, CenterPoint Energy is bringing energy efficient upgrades to 100 low-income Houston Housing Authority (HHA) residents by replacing existing equipment in each unit with energy efficient 16-SEER heating and air conditioning systems.

The efficient upgrades are part of CenterPoint Energy’s Agencies in Action program, which provides financial incentives to a variety of local government agencies and nonprofit community agencies for installation of energy efficient improvements in the homes of income-eligible customers in CenterPoint Energy’s electric distribution area.

“Over the lifetime of the improvements, we expect these residents to save more than $500,000 collectively on their utility bills,” said Jarrett Simon, energy efficiency program implementation manager for CenterPoint Energy. “The program is really a win-win. While the customer gains energy savings, CenterPoint Energy will benefit from reduced demand for electricity, especially during peak demand periods in the summer.”

“HHA is appreciative to CenterPoint Energy for providing our residents with upgraded heating and air conditioning systems,” said Tory Gunsolley, HHA President and CEO. “The agency is committed to making sure that we help our residents reduce their utility cost that is why we have provided them with useful energy saving tips and online resources that is available at our website. With the incentives provided by CenterPoint Energy, our residents can expect to save energy and money.”
