Electricity consumers in CenterPoint Energy’s delivery area can win big for being the Biggest Energy Saver

HOUSTON – August 15, 2011 – Consumers in the Houston area whose electricity is delivered by CenterPoint Energy’s electric operations business have an exciting opportunity to compete for valuable prizes by managing and reducing their electric consumption and participating in the Biggest Energy Saver consumer skill contest.

Registered participants who use their smart meter data to reduce their electricity consumption and demonstrate how those reductions can be sustained over time are eligible to win the:

  • Grand prize - 2011 Chevy Volt
  • First  prize -  Full kitchen suite of GE Profile smart appliances
  • Second prize - GE Profile Front Load washer/electric dryer pair
  • Third prize - One of several GE In-Home Network suites

Those interested in entering must register at BiggestEnergySaver.com, where they can also read the complete rules, terms and conditions. Entrants must be 18 or older at the time of entry and must have lived in their current metered residence since at least
Aug. 1, 2010, to be eligible. Entrants must also be customers in the CenterPoint Energy electric service area with an installed and provisioned smart meter. The contest runs from Aug. 1 to Sept. 30. Finalists in the consumer smart meter contest will be notified in late fall 2011.

The Biggest Energy Saver campaign is designed to showcase the power of smart meter data. The Biggest Energy Saver’s Online Community website is a place where consumers can learn about smart meters as well as share tips for saving electricity.
The Biggest Energy Saver campaign’s contests and giveaways are sponsored by GRID 21, a non-profit organization committed to engaging electricity consumers in using a new generation of tools and technologies to better manage their electricity consumption. CenterPoint Energy; along with Oncor, a north Texas electric utility; technology partners Itron and Landis+Gyr; collaborator IBM; and prize sponsors GE and Tendril all helped create the inaugural Biggest Energy Saver campaign.
