Pepco asks for power restoration help following Hurricane Irene

HOUSTON – August 26, 2011 – More than 80 CenterPoint Energy linemen and support personnel departed this morning to head to the northeast to help Pepco restore what will likely be widespread power outages following Hurricane Irene.

Crews are expected to arrive in Washington,  D.C. on Sunday afternoon and will work 12-16 hour days removing toppled trees and tree limbs off power lines, replacing downed power poles, power lines and transformers, and restoring power.

CenterPoint Energy partners with other utilities in mutual assistance agreements to lend a hand during widespread power outage emergencies.

Over the years, CenterPoint Energy crews have restored power to hundreds of thousands of customers throughout the country who were left in the dark following hurricanes, ice storms, tornadoes and severe thunderstorms.

In 2008 following Hurricane Ike, CenterPoint Energy brought in 11,000 outside resources to help restore power to 2.1 million Houston-area customers who lost service following Ike’s landfall.
