What we do ...

The energy we deliver is at the center of our customers' lives: from 24-hour a day television broadcasts … to gas kitchens … to comfortable gas heating … to hand-held computers and cellular phone connections.

We know that reliable energy is not a luxury. It's up to us to keep the lights on and to provide clean natural gas for homes, factories and businesses. CenterPoint Energy is a company of people who are always there. Check out Fast Facts for a quick glance at a variety of information about CenterPoint Energy and take a look at the 2013 Annual Report for a more in-depth overview.

CenterPoint Energy is a public utility holding company. Our operating subsidiaries own and operate electric transmission and distribution facilities and natural gas distribution facilities and own interests in Enable Midstream Partners, LP:

  • Electric Transmission & Distribution (T&D) – We maintain the wires, poles and electric infrastructure serving the 5,000-square-mile electric service territory in the Houston metropolitan area. While CenterPoint Energy employees ensure the reliable delivery of power from power plants to homes and businesses, we neither generate power nor sell it directly to customers.
  • Natural Gas Distribution – We sell and deliver natural gas to more than 3.3 million homes and businesses in Arkansas, Louisiana, Minnesota, Mississippi, Oklahoma and Texas, including the high growth areas of Houston and Minneapolis.
  • Competitive Natural Gas Sales and Services – Our gas marketing business, CenterPoint Energy Services, offers variable and fixed-price physical natural gas supplies primarily to commercial and industrial customers and electric and gas utilities.

Giving back is our way of saying thank you

CenterPoint Energy employees are untiring volunteers in the communities where we live. We lend support to educational, civic, social and environmental initiatives that enhance the quality of life for our customers and we work with groups from many backgrounds, tailoring our relationship and assistance to meet their needs. Through our volunteer programs, in 2012 we contributed more than 243,313 volunteer hours to the communities we serve. These hours are valued at more than $5.3 million, according to the Independent Sector, but they are invaluable to the individuals who benefit from them and the employees who experience the pleasure of giving back.
