Natural gas leak - What to do if you smell gas
If you smell gas, leave the area immediately. Do not use your phone, electric switches, your computer, or anything that could cause a spark. Go directly to a safe location, then call CenterPoint Energy.

Carbon monoxide safety
Check frequently for visible signs of carbon monoxide (CO) build-up in your home or building, such as high indoor humidity, and soot or water collecting near a burner or vent. Check out The Inside Story on Carbon Monoxide.

Excess flow valves
Excess flow valves are optional devices that can be installed on your home’s natural gas service line. They are designed to completely shut off or significantly reduce the flow of natural gas if a natural gas service line becomes damaged.

Call before you dig
For your safety, you are required by law to call 811 at least 48 hours before you plan to dig so your underground utility lines can be marked.
